Basement Jaxx – Good Luck ft. Lisa Kekaula – Kish Kash
I always enjoyed belting out this song when I was feeling low about a guy, although it never felt so perfectly suited to any ex-boyfriend as it does to DD. From the word go, I realised that DD was seriously, worryingly delusive, about just about everything. He wasn’t a bad guy and I didn’t hold it against him, but it caused a variety of emotions, from embarrassment to frustration to sheer amazement. However, by the time we broke up, his lack of clear judgement and his ability to convince himself of anything that suited him had left a lot of bad feeling between us. He drove me crazy and right until the very end I was completely overwhelmed by his talent for ignoring whatever he didn’t want to hear or see. And even after we broke up. His constant lying and absence from reality continued to get me down; his new girlfriend, his lies about what he was up to and why he was writing to me… every contact we had made me loathe him more, because he seemingly thought I was an idiot who believed his ridiculous tales.
A couple of days ago, I found out he’s getting married. Married! He and I were still together a month ago! I can’t even feel the slightest bit hurt, because he is so obviously insane. So I say Good luck, good luck… because he is so fucked up and deluded that he’ll fail in this relationship just like he did in all the others, and this marriage will be no more successful than the last one. I don’t want him to be alone and lonely, but unless he sorts himself out (or gets a bullet in his head — and at the rate he’s collecting scars, that might not be too long…) he’s never going to be happy.
Good luck in your new bed… enjoy your nightmares honey, while you’re resting your head…
Tell me tell me, is life just a playground
Think you’re the real deal honey
And someone’ll always look out for you
But wake up baby
You’re so totally deluded
You’ll end up old and lonely
If you don’t get a bullet in your head
Good luck good luck
Good luck in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares honey
When you’re resting your head
Good luck good luck
Good luck in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares honey
When you’re resting your head
You sold me sold me
Sold me down the river now
Hope you’re feeling happy now
Now you’ll always have a sneer in your smile
But wake up baby
You’re so totally deluded
You’ll end up old and lonely
If you don’t get a bullet in your head
Good luck good luck
Good luck in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares honey
When you’re resting your head
Good luck good luck
Good luck in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares honey
When you’re resting your head
And I’m glad so glad that I’m done with you
No more crying crying leaving me so black and blue
You backed me up against the wall but I stand tall
Don’t give a damn no more
Oh baby bye bye
No more lies
No more lies
No more lies
Without you
Good good luck
in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares
When you’re resting your head
Good good luck
in your new bed
Enjoy your nightmares…
